I’ve been going to BrickCon for several years and have always enjoyed their commitment to running a virtual version of the convention. This is an affordable way for AFOLs around the world to enjoy the con including games, prizes, hearing the talks, socializing, and a building contest. Even when I go in person, sometimes it’s nice to take a break and watch a talk online.
This year I had a last minute conflict and couldn’t attend in Bellevue. The BrickCon team quickly changed my registration to virtual. I had planned to bring my Rock and Roll Hall of Fame MOC that I built for BayLUG’s Great American Road Trip collaboration. Instead I uploaded photos of it for consideration in the virtual build contest. I entered it in the Scale Model category.
I was watching the award ceremony and was so surprised and excited to see my name come up! Rock and Roll won the Mega Wow award! I’ve been going around my house saying “Wow! Mega wow!” for several days.
Build winners at the in-person BrickCon get brick built trophies. Virtual winners get an engraved 1×8 brick and I’m really happy about it. I can wear it on my badge when I go in person next year – hard to do that with a trophy!
