On Saturday, April 16th, the new Brickmania Mare Island store in Vallejo held it’s grand opening. Several BayLUG members met at the store to shop, and then we went to lunch. The store is definitely worth visiting.

On Friday, September 3, the new LEGOLAND Discovery Center Bay Area in the Great Mall in Milpitas held it’s first ever adult night. BayLUG represented with members Russell and Mike attending. The theme was Pirates and a building contest was held. Mike’s entry won second place! Included are a few pictures of Miniland and our builds, plus the mascot Millie the Giraffe.

Earlier this month on May 5, BayLUG made our first Fairy Bricks donation. We chose the George Mark Children’s House in San Leandro, CA. George Mark Children’s House was the first freestanding pediatric palliative care center in the United States.

They were blown away by the donation. LEGO is the number one thing requested by the children. As a result of our donation, once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, BayLUG is planning on starting regular LEGO play days at the house.

BayLUG, BayLTC, and MOAH have partnered to present their 17th annual holiday show. This event is normally held at the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto, but we decided to create a virtual holiday show website this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show can be viewed for free at this website until January 10, 2021. We’ve had a lot of fun putting together the display and hope you enjoy the show.

The pandemic has affected all of us in one way or another, but it did not stop BayLUG members from participating in a virtual version of Bricks by the Bay! Ordinarily an in-person event in Santa Clara drawing several thousand visitors over a weekend, the event morphed, and entered the virtual world. Several members worked on their interpretation of Dr. Seuss characters bringing them to life in LEGO® form. Members then filmed their creations, and a video compilation was shown to the virtual attendees. We really look forward to returning to in-person meetings and shows as soon as it is safe. Still, BayLUG’s passion for collaboration and presentation of custom creations endures! Model and photo by Leonard E. Marquez.

Several BayLUG and BayLTC members attended and presented “My Own Creations” (MOCs) at the 10th annual Bricks by the Bay convention from July 12-15, 2019 in Santa Clara, CA. To fit with the convention theme, “UneXpected”, BayLUG showcased a collaborative “X-Mas in July” town and train display, which featured a beachfront boardwalk with sunbathing elves, a German holiday market next to pine and palm trees, and a variety of festive buildings and vehicles. BayLUG’s display won the Best Large Team Build award. BayLUG was proud to sponsor the Bricks by the Bay convention and promote a fun attraction for brick enthusiasts of all ages.
