The response system will consist of four
tiers of response, which parallels the greater alarm concept. As with
greater alarm fires, each tier has a specific, standardized response;
and, as each tier is requested, the standard response will be
dispatched. In addition, other units will be advised or other actions
initiated. The levels of response will be defined as Tier I Response,
Tier II Response, Tier III Response, and Tier IV Response. Any level
of response may be called by personnel of any rank as deemed
necessary to handle the emergency when that individual is the IC.
- 1. Initial Dispatch - Initial dispatch on a wildland fire will be
the closest and smallest unit with water. The company officer may
elect to have a sub-unit respond by itself or the entire company,
depending upon the nature and location of the fire.
- 2. Assistance
Required - When it is found that
assistance for a sub-unit is required, the unit on the scene will
have only two options:
- (1) The unit on the scene by itself
may request its parent engine company, or
- (2) It may request any Tiered
response

- One Engine company
- One Battalion Chief
