Haz-Mat
Information
The following are the Haz-Mat levels for
the PCFD H.I.T. Team:
- Level 0 - Is a small spill with no life hazard, low fire
or explosion potential, and minimal environmental impact. It can
be handled by units initially assigned to the incident. No
evacuation (ex. a 5-gallon gas can spill).
- Level 1- Is a small spill with a slight life hazard, low
fire or explosion potential, and a possible slight environmental
impact. No evacuation (ex. an automobile fuel tank leak).
- Level 2 - Is a medium sized container, with a moderate
impact on the environment. The county's Haz-Mat team is called in.
May require evacuation (ex. 1 ton cylinder, nurse tanks, multiple
packages).
- Level 3 - Is a large container or high potential for
fire or explosion, and a severe impact on the environment. A large
area may be evacuated. The regional Haz-Mat team is called in.
(ex. tank car or truck, bulk stationary tank, multiple medium
packages).
- Level 4 - Is a very rare incident, it is an incident
involving 1,000 gallons or more of a dangerous hazardous
materials, or a terrorist attack. The entire community may be
evacuated. The federal Haz-Mat team is called in.
